Club One Talks About MiGym

Bill McBride, COO and President of Club One, recently talked about Club One's successful deployment of MiGym at their various clubs.  Check out the video below

Meanwhile, Club Solutions Magazine, one of the health and fitness industry's leading trade journals, interviewed Anthony Macaluso about their use of MiGym for their mobile app. Here's his thoughts.

Your members are on their smart phones, a lot — so why not reach them where they are? Anthony Macaluso, the general manager at The Sporting Club San Diego, introduced an app for his gym, powered by MiGym. “That’s where the industry is moving,” said Macaluso. “Everyone is on their smartphones all the time. You don’t see people on their computers when they’re out. They’re always on their phones.”The Sporting Club adopted the app within the last six months. Members can get information about schedules, promotions and guest passes with the app. “It was so simple. [MiGym] took care of most of it for us.”Macaluso likes that none of the members’ information is shared with a third party — keeping their information safe. “So far members really like it,” he said.” They even want to see more options. [The app] pays for itself. It eliminates the paper in the club.”According to Macaluso, the app is extremely easy to manage. Scheduling operates using Google Calendar and is simple to update. When tech support has been needed Macaluso was able to get it fairly quickly. MiGym will stay on the phone for a tutorial and walk him through any issues.“I think it’s great. It pushes us into the next wave where clubs are going. It trains the member that they can get information themselves and saves time — they don’t always have to pick up the phone.”

New App Makes “Getting to the Church on Time” a Breeze for Wedding Guests

The wedding season is upon us, which means stress for the bride and groom, travel nightmares and, oh yes, the most special day of their lives. A new iPhone app, miWedding (miweddingapp.com), seeks to remove the stress and bring wedding planning into the palm of your hand.

miWedding creators, J Schwan and Andy Whiting, aren’t strangers to the challenges of getting married.  They’ve spent the past 5 years attending weddings as guests, being members of the wedding party and even planning their own weddings.

After being late to out-of-town weddings, losing track of their groomsmen’s itineraries and missing candid photo opportunities, they realized a smartphone could make weddings less stressful and more fun for the bride and groom, as well as the guests and bridal party.

Andy and J developed miWedding, the first iPhone app that allows a bride and groom to improve wedding logistics and communications. Important features include:
  • View the weekend's itinerary (from rehearsal dinner to Sunday brunch) in a simple mobile friendly format
  • Get directions to all of the wedding venues (church, reception hall, hotels, golf courses, etc.)
  • Self-guided tour of points of interest for out of town guests
  • Take pictures, see/save other guests' pictures, all inside the app via a shared photo album that is also accessible (and printable) from the web
  • View bridal party photographs and information including links to their Facebook profiles
  • Follow the bride and groom Twitter feed
  • Link to the bridal registries and more

While the miWedding team believes that professional photographers are a must, candids from the guests’ perspectives can’t be beat.

“No matter how much you pay, photographers are not going to be everywhere at once,” said Whiting. “These days, virtually all of the guests have a smartphone camera and miWedding gives you the opportunity to witness a wedding from every guest’s perspective and quickly post it to your favorite social networking site.

The bride and groom spend months arranging the logistics, but on the big weekend, getting everyone to where they need to be – on-time – is challenging, particularly for out-of-town guests. Communicating last minute changes, due to weather or other unforeseen events, often falls on the shoulders of the bride and groom because they are the only ones that know everyone at the wedding.

“The people that should be enjoying themselves on this once-in-a-lifetime day are the ones doing the most work, miWedding changes that.” said Schwan.

Weddings Can Be Stressful, But They Don't Have To Be!

Weddings can be stressful. Once the logistics are nailed down, getting everyone the right information and getting them to where they need to be on time can be cumbersome, particularly for guests coming in from out of town. Communicating last minute changes (or additions) to the weekend itinerary can be challenging, because ultimately, the bride and groom are the only people that know EVERYONE coming to the wedding.

Capturing memories is another challenge. Professional photographs often take weeks or months to develop, and distributing professional proofs to your guests months after the event often proves fruitless. Even if they had a great time, are many of them going to spend $25 on a 5x7?

Introducing miWedding, the first mobile app to allow for easy communication of the weekend's itinerary to guests, and allow for guests to share photographs of the event with you (and each other!)

A brief synopsis of miWedding is below, you can download it from the iTunes store here. You can also learn more at miWeddingApp.com
